We, therefore, handle the pick-up and final delivery runs for you and combines several means of transport to form multi-modal transport chains. We have tri-modal rail ports available at several locations for this purpose.

Customized concepts for railway transportation
We have the necessary equipment to tranship your goods from ship to rail or from railway wagons to trucks, for example, and can lift even the heaviest loads. Rhenus has a customs broker license for the most important export nations.
But that is not all: we can also easily handle the transshipment of your goods from the normal gauge used in Europe, North America, and China to the larger broad gauge.
We have our own office at Malaszewicze in Poland where the gauge changes and it monitors transshipment operations involving the reloading of wagons.
Our railway specialist, Rhenus Rail Logistics, develops and handles rail logistics concepts with you for freight forwarding, systems traffic, supply chain management, and traction.
As a result of cooperation and freight agreements with other European railway companies, we pool flows of goods and offer the best solution and favorable conditions. You can follow the data related to your railway shipments through our IT interfaces and our consignment tracking system at any time.
In-house traction
Based on the expertise that has been available at the Rhenus Rail St. Ingbert company, which was founded in 1996, we are in a position to handle trains across Germany.
The major focus of our own railway operations is in the south/south-west region of Germany where Rhenus Rail not only has its headquarters in St. Ingbert/Saar but also has its own operating bases in Mannheim, Worms, and Freiburg.
Rhenus has established a leading market position in cross-border traffic between Germany and France using close contacts and cooperation arrangements with French railway operators.
The company hauls trains consisting of all types of commodities like-mined goods, coal/steel, foodstuffs, automobiles, chemical goods, and containers.
Rhenus Rail not only handles long-distance traffic but also offers “last mile” and shunting services at industrial sites. The company transported approx. 2.5 million tonnes of freight in 2013.
Since 2017 Rhenus is the sole shareholder of Crossrail Benelux NV.
Crossrail Benelux NV is a dynamic company located in Antwerp/Belgium and Aachen/Germany that is offering tailor-made cross-border freight transportation services on a regular and spot basis in Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany. Together with reliable partners, Crossrail Benelux NV also successfully operates traction services to Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, Hungary, and Romania.
Rhenus Rail operates 21 diesel locos, long-distance and shunting locomotives with various power ratings and 3 electric locos. Some of these are also licensed to operate on the French network and can be adapted to customers’ requirements quickly through flexible leasing arrangements.
The company’s regular customers include industrial firms, railway operators, freight forwarders, and private or state railway companies.
